Upcoming Meeting Presentations

February 2nd @ 7pm

The dive club is very excited to welcome back
Dr. Matthew Partrick.
In July and August of 2009, Dr. Mathew Partrick volunteered his time by serving as the diving medical officer for the Texas A&M University's Institute of Nautical Archeology while traveling with them on an expedition to Kizilburun, Turkey.  For the past several years, the INA has focused its efforts on excavating a 1st century B.C. Roman Shipwreck off the coast of Kizilburun. There, team archeologists employ open circuit SCUBA gear with staged oxygen decompression dives to further their scientific research.  Dr. Partrick provided routine medical care for each team diver, as well as administered emergency medical care for any potential diving emergency.

NJSPMarch 2nd @ 7pm
New Jersey State Police Trooper Brian McGuire of the Marine Special Services will be speaking on the Maritime Security Initiative.  The purpose of this program is to empower the local private and corporate waterfront community with the knowledge and ability to assist law enforcement. Civilians can assist by identifying observed criminal or terrorist behaviors, and alerting law enforcement. This information is then entered into the Statewide Intelligence Management System (SIMS). The SIMS database is used to collect and share information on suspected involvement in all types of criminal activity. SIMS allows agencies to store intelligence for their own use or for the use of the broader law enforcement community.

Save a Shark

Save a Shark, Buy a Billboard in China: The group Shark Savers newest effort to keep shark fins out of soup bowls has it partnering with WildAid for a multimedia campaign in China and asking divers to help fund their efforts. For a tax-deductible $100, you can fund a "Say No to Shark Fin soup" bus-stop billboard featuring basketball star Yao Ming that will be placed in a high-traffic area of Beijing or Shanghai for a year. WildAid had 200 billboards in Beijing last year and says that of the people they surveyed who remembered the billboards, 82 percent said they would stop or reduce their eating of shark-fin soup. Photo Gallery

New Club photo gallery.  Dave spent far too much time trying to set up a new website.   He may have finally gone over the edge and created too much. ... Nahhh. But he did import many of the shots from the previous site, and is currently importing more.   Check out some of the slide shows.
